Medical Marijuana Reciprocity for Kamm's Corners Patients

An Ohio medical cannabis registration should not be treated as permission to purchase marijuana anywhere in the country. Ohio's medical marijuana reciprocity statute requires the Division of Cannabis Control to attempt to establish reciprocity agreements only with states whose eligibility standards are substantially comparable and that recognize Ohio registrations in return.

How does medical marijuana reciprocity work when traveling?

Reciprocity refers to one jurisdiction recognizing medical cannabis authorization issued by another.

Recognition may still require additional steps. Some destinations make visitors apply for temporary registration, pay an application fee, demonstrate an equivalent qualifying condition, or obtain a local card before entering a dispensary.

Which states have visitor programs in 2026?

Examples of government-operated visitor programs include:

  • Arkansas: An eligible visiting patient can apply for a card valid for 90 days. The Arkansas Department of Health currently lists a $50 non-refundable application fee, and the condition approved in the patient's home state must also qualify in Arkansas.
  • Hawaii: Eligible out-of-state patients can obtain temporary registration for up to 60 days. Hawaii currently charges a $49.50 non-refundable application fee and allows one renewal during the same calendar year.
  • Oklahoma: A patient holding a medical marijuana license issued by another state government can apply for an Oklahoma out-of-state license valid for 30 days. The temporary application fee is currently $100 plus the processing fee.
  • Utah: A qualifying visitor with an eligible home-state medical cannabis card can apply for a 21-day nonresident card. Utah limits patients to two nonresident cards in a calendar year.

Kamm's Corners patients should check the destination state's government website shortly before traveling because visitor eligibility, fees, and cannabis rules can change.
